WELCOME TO THE NEWSLETTER! We’re so happy you’re here! This is where we’ll share important (and secret) info about our upcoming music, shows, junkets — and of course some of our silliest behind the scenes.

If you’re new here, here’s a little bit about us…
Family Junket is a band, lifestyle and community that makes music for our extended family.
There are eight of us: Rahila and Clarence are vocalists, Alejandro and Scott are a guitarist and a violinist, Hasani is on djembe and percussion and the three brothers – Zach, Jonah and Max – play bass, drums and a bunch of keyboard/wind instruments. And now we’re welcoming you! Hello you!
We played our first show together in October of 2021, released our first single, “It’s a Party” in July of 2022, held our premiere Junket last October and have continued to jam, create, record and cook dinners together ever since.
2023 has been a busy year for us and we can’t wait to catch y’all up!
Let’s catch y’all up shall we…
We ended last year full of excitement and energy for our tour planned for the first weekend in March. But, when covid tried to get us, we were forced to postpone the tour.
We were disappointed – to say the very least. We had been planning and looking forward to the opportunity to share space with our extended family outside of Chicago.
But we used the time stuck at home to put together “FAMILY JUNKET LOVE PACKAGE VOL. 1.”
This nine-track love package express delivered samples of unreleased songs, jam sessions, live performances and previews of records to come.
Also during our time of rejuvenation and resuscitation, we submitted a recording of our song, “Buzzin” to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest.
BUT WE’RE NEVER DOWN BAD FOR LONG OKAY?
After taking time to recuperate, we got to our first-ever tour. Hitting the road in May, we visited our families in New York City, Kent, OH, Burlington, VT and wrapped it all up with a release party for our latest single “Waiting for the Moon,” back home in Chicago.
We loved seeing our beautiful families out of town! After an incredible tour, June was a month of recording and sooo much fun and we are working very hard on getting the next single ready for you! We started off the month by celebrating at one of our fave local spots, the California Clipper.
We then ended the month at BKyard Boogie’s Chicago debut, where we got to spend the day jamming and creating with our extended family: Manasseh, Blake Davis and Senite.
Finally, we kicked off July with our friends at Art Night who invited us to share space with other local artists where we shared and collaborated on a stripped down version of our unreleased song, “Can I Listen to Your Melody?”

Some gratitude for our extended family…
So far, 2023 has been a year of growth, endurance, intentionality and love – as well as the continued expansion of our community. We’re so grateful for the spaces, homes, meals, songs and time our extended family shows us. And finally, thank you SO MUCH for your continued support. We’re blessed you all are here and we can’t wait to share more with you.
